(born Cherilyn Sarkisian on May 20, 1946) is an
American actress and singer of Armenian descent
on her biological father's side and 1/16th
Cherokee on her mother's side. With one of the
most recognizable faces in the world, she rose
to prominence in the 1960s as a member of the
duo Sonny and Cher and sold over 80 million
records worldwide, then as a solo artist when
the duo ended in 1974. She has sold solo over
100 million records worldwide
since the start of her career.
